Accessibility Statement

Every Student and Educator should be able to use Blended Teaching, whatever their ability and whatever technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA across our apps.

This statement covers our three apps:

Mayflower, which Students use inside their course in Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace or Moodle.

Library, where Students read course materials and buy access.

Educators, where Educators build courses, set assessments and review grades.

Mayflower: assessed against WCAG 2.1 AA in October 2026. The results are published in our VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template, version 2.5, WCAG edition), dated 9 October 2026. It is available on request.

Library and Educators: not yet covered by a published VPAT.

These features are part of our apps today. Where a feature is in only some apps, we say which.

Keyboard: everything in Mayflower can be done with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and a logical tab order. Mayflower, Library and online assessments have a skip link that jumps straight to the main content. Video player shortcuts, such as M to mute, work only while the player has focus, so they do not clash with screen reader keys.

Screen readers: buttons, form fields, icon-only controls and video player controls have accessible names. Form errors are linked to the field they describe, and progress, loading and error messages are announced without moving focus.

Captions and transcripts: every video gets English captions automatically when it is uploaded, and Educators can upload their own corrected caption file to replace them. Videos also have a text transcript, which Students can show or hide in Library. Where a video has captions in more than one language, Students can choose the language.

Reading and display: we design text to a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 and controls to at least 3:1, as WCAG 2.1 AA requires. Pages work zoomed to 200% and in portrait or landscape. In Library, Students can choose small, medium or large reading text.

Assessment accommodations: Educators can give an individual Student extra time (in minutes or as a percentage), extra attempts or extra days on an assessment, and large-print (18 point) question sheets for paper exams.

Forms and sign-in: Students sign in through their institution's learning management system. Our own registration fields support browser autofill, and registration, enrolment and payment show a review step so you can check and correct details before submitting.

No overlays: accessibility is built into the apps themselves. We do not use an accessibility overlay, a special accessibility mode or a separate simplified version.

Some course content comes from Educators and publishers, such as uploaded documents, videos and embedded material from other sites. Its accessibility depends on how it was made. If you cannot use a piece of content, tell us and we will work with your Educator to provide it in another format.

We check pages against WCAG 2.1 AA while we design and build them.

Automated accessibility checks in our code linting and unit tests run before changes are released, and we check key pages against WCAG 2.1 AA by hand.

We test with keyboard-only navigation and screen readers.

Email help@blended-teaching.com and include: the page or feature, and what you were trying to do; what went wrong; and the browser, device and any assistive technology you use (for example a screen reader or magnifier).

What happens next: we will acknowledge your report within 1 working day. We will tell you how we plan to fix the problem and, if it will take time, how you can get the same information or complete the same task in the meantime. If the problem affects a graded assessment, tell your Educator as well so they can make arrangements for you.
