Grading can be one of the most tedious yet critical parts of teaching. Between juggling multiple platforms, manually transferring scores, and worrying about student confusion or discrepancies, it's no wonder instructors often feel burdened.

What if you could simplify that entire process with a tool that ensures your gradebook always reflects exactly what you see in your assessment platform? That’s where Auto Grade Syncing comes in.

In this post, I’ll walk through how it works in Blended Teaching, why it helps, and best practices to get maximum value out of it.

Already convinced & want to see exactly how to switch it on? Check out our help center article here.

1. What is Auto Grade Syncing?

Auto Grade Syncing automates the process of pushing grades from Blended Teaching into your LMS gradebook. In other words: once it's enabled, your LMS becomes a “mirror” of your Blended Teaching gradebook.

Every time a student submits an assessment (or when you manually override a grade in Blended Teaching), that change is automatically sent to the gradebook in your LMS. So your LMS stays up to date without you having to copy or re-enter anything.

2. What are the Benefits?

1. Time Saving & Simplicity

Manual transfers of grades from one system to another take time and are error-prone (typos, mismatches, omissions).

With Auto Grade Syncing, that work is done for you. No exporting CSVs, no “copy/paste” moments, no double-checking to make sure everything aligned.

2. Consistency & Data Integrity

Because the LMS gradebook is updated in real time, the chance for discrepancies or outdated entries is greatly reduced. You avoid those frustrating moments when a student sees a different grade in the LMS than in the assessment platform.

3. Better Transparency & Student Trust

When students see consistent data across systems, it builds confidence that everything is being handled accurately. And if you have the LMS set for automatic posting (where students see results immediately), it fosters timely feedback and clarity.

3. Best Practices & Tips

1. Lock down your assessment settings first

Before turning sync on, double-check all your start/end dates, due dates, point values, and grading strategies in Blended Teaching. Once syncing is active, those become the “source of truth.”

2. Choose your grade visibility strategy thoughtfully

In your LMS, decide whether grades should appear immediately (automatic posting) or only when you publish them manually. There’s no right answer here, so go with what works best for your teaching style, and your students.

3. Tell students what to expect

Clarify to students that Blended Teaching is where their official assessment records are kept, and that the LMS gradebook is just a mirrored view. That way, if there's any delay or discrepancy in visibility, students understand the workflow.

4. Don’t make changes in the LMS

Once Auto Grade Sync is on, any change you attempt in the LMS may get overwritten by Blended Teaching. Always make adjustments in Blended Teaching itself.
